Sunny skies and the warm breath of a Montana morning greeted me today at the boat ramp on the Missouri River, near Craig, Montana.
Like most days this time of the year, the ebb and flow of the weather was unsettled and unreliable – but distinctly Montana. The boat ramp on the other end of the day was a welcome sight as we sought refuge from a spring deluge. Although the warmth feels nice on the face and the hands, the cold and wet times bring out the Blue-Winged Olives and feeding trout. Spring on the Missouri is here and I’m about a third of the way through this little season, enjoying each day for the changes it brings from the day before.
It's hard to believe, but the worst of the runoff on the Missouri is over – higher water is on the way, but the clarity will only get better from here on out. E-mail me if you would like to join me for a day or two of guided fly-fishing on the Missouri River this May as I still have a few open dates remaining.
