'Fintastic' Montana Fishing Guides

“My son and I fished with Fins and Feathers for 10 days this summer. had an absolutely 'fintastic' time. Guides were excellent - extremely knowledgeable, patient and put us on a LOT of fish. Equipment provided was amazing too, top of the line, latest and greatest. I would highly recommend it.”

Nick Bacon

Nick started working in our Bozeman fly shop while attending Montana State University, graduating with a degree in business marketing. He worked in the shop and guided anglers fishing throughout Southwest Montana during the summer months before 2023.

Nick is one of our core staff of Bozeman fly fishing guides and made the transition to guiding full-time when we sold the fly shop in late 2022.

He always has a great attitude and is the only 25-year-old fishing guide who gets excited to beat the sunrise to the river in late July. Persistent, subtle coaching makes him popular with new anglers. Many of our more experienced guests like fishing with Nick because he just doesn’t give up on the tough days and makes quick work of the fish on the easy ones.

Nicole Legault

Nicole originally hails from the north suburbs of Chicago but attended high school near Aspen, which is where her love of the mountains and fly fishing began. She moved to Bozeman to attend college when she was eighteen and began to hone her knowledge and skills as an angler.

When it came time to put her degree to use and enter the “real-world,” naturally she decided to become a fishing guide. Nicole’s greatest source of pride comes from the many repeat clients that request to fish with her, year after year.

She is a hard-working guide and patient instructor with over a decade of experience, guiding Montana fly fishing trips near Bozeman. Nicole is a core member of the Fins and Feathers, Bozeman fly fishing guide staff.

Montana fishing guide, Tim Peterson, with a nice Brown Trout

Tim Peterson

Tim grew up in Virginia on the East Coast, he started out with a fly rod chasing largemouth and striped bass. He found his way out west for school at the University of Colorado in Boulder where he caught the trout bug. After school, Tim dedicated much of his time to exploring rivers across the Rocky Mountain West, Canada, and Alaska.

His laid-back approach works well with both novice and experienced anglers. He is a master at teaching and coaching anglers to success during challenging, technical dry fly sessions.

Tim enjoys sharing his passion for the outdoors with clients and has guided anglers in Wyoming, Idaho, Alaska and Montana. He brings a great attitude to the river each day and has become an essential member of our core staff of Montana fishing guides.

Bozeman fishing guide, Mike Lanzarini, holding a nice Madison River trout

Mike Lanzarini

Mike Lanzarini, originally from Missouri, began fly fishing on the Ozark Mountains' cold, spring-fed rivers. He fell in love with the waters and fish of his home state but could not pass up on the vast opportunities the Rocky Mountains had to offer an angler. Mike and his wife moved to Bozeman in 2015 and he has been guiding on his absolute favorite trout streams ever since.

He was born to be an upper Madison River fishing guide. Experienced anglers enjoy Mike’s ability to adapt techniques and presentations with changing conditions and hatches throughout the day. Novice anglers enjoy his unexpected, welcoming demeanor and patient coaching style.

He is a core member of the Fins and Feathers, Bozeman fly fishing guide staff. You can expect big smiles and fun days on the trout waters near Bozeman with Mike.

Will Allen

Will Allen grew up in Alabama, moving to Bozeman to attend Montana State University. He is pursuing a life on the water in the summertime and the ski hills in the winter, across Montana.

A “sneaky” competitor, Will loves his life as a Montana fishing guide and works hard to find success for his anglers through persistent coaching.

Will is passionate about our Yellowstone River fishing trips and enjoys rowing the more technical stretches of the river. He also enjoys working with us during our Missouri River fishing season between April and June on this blue-ribbon trout fishery near Craig, Montana.

Will moved to Lewistown Montana in late 2023 and continues to be one of our core group of Montana fishing guides.

Fins and Feathers outfitter, Toby Swank, relaxing in the tropics

Toby Swank

I founded Fins and Feathers of Bozeman in 2000 as a fly shop and guide service in 2000. My friends at Yellow Dog purchased the fly shop in 2022 and I spent most of the last year just getting used to enjoying a relatively stress-free life.

My wife and two sons are my fishing and traveling companions throughout Montana and around the world. Their endless support has been paramount in helping me adjust to the life I always dreamed of.

I am extremely excited about working with this amazing crew of Bozeman fly fishing guides as we enter our 24th season. Our experience, diverse selection of premier Montana trout fisheries, and a small team of experienced professionals enable us to consistently deliver a quality, personable Montana fly fishing experience.
