Also new this year from Sage is their latest series of high-performance fly reels in the ENFORCER series. I fished this reel in the 9/10 size on my several trips to Louisiana the past few months and was consistently, happily surprised by the drag power.

The drag power is amazing – one literal fish-stopping power at your fingertips. There were many occasions when the drag was so tight that I could easily put the brakes on big Redfish and Black Drums - to the point that I was amazed the 30-pound leaders didn’t break! On one large Black Drum in particular, the drag was set so tight that I was almost pulled from the boat on two occasions during unexpected, attempted runs by the fish – I’m not exaggerating! A great reel for everyday saltwater situations, the Enforcer series retails at $575!

The concave machining on the spool adds strength and backing capacity in addition to enhancing the looks of the reel as well. A rounded reel foot reduces line and leader abrasion during storage periods. The drag surface is larger than the Spectrum Max family and more akin to the Sage THERMO series in terms of design and function. Improved seals ensure less maintenance and years of reliable use in the harshest saltwater environments. Sage’s universal one-revolution drag system keeps the angler connected through the fight with 20 indented points of reference on the oversized drag knob.
