Guided Fly Fishing in Bozeman

Bozeman is the perfect place to base out of for a Montana fly fishing trip. The town is surrounded by world-renowned rivers, lakes, and streams that many consider the best fly fishing in Montana. The Yellowstone, Madison, Gallatin and Jefferson each boast over 75 miles of blue-ribbon wild trout water and are within a short drive of our home office at 4-Corners. Whether you are a seasoned angler or just starting as a fly fisher, the fly fishing near Bozeman is well suited for anglers of all skill levels.

Fins and Feathers Guide Service has been outfitting Montana fly fishing trips for 25 years. Our Bozeman fly fishing guides service a wide swath of the Big Sky state during the year, guiding anglers fishing everywhere between the Bighorn to the east and the lower Clark Fork to the west. However, Bozeman is our home and where we spend most of our time on the water with guests from around the world.

Bozeman Fly Fishing Trip Options

Guided fly fishing trips are available year round with our Bozeman fly fishing guides. Although there is fly fishing to be had even during the cold of winter, the season really kicks into gear in mid-March and runs through October. The best time of year to fly fish in Montana is between mid-June and mid-September, with July being the prime month.

Bozeman Fly Fishing Day Trips

Full Day Trips:

The standard option for both advanced and beginner anglers in the Bozeman area is a full-day trip. As floating is the best way to experience fly fishing in Montana, committing 6-8 hours to the experience will allow both our guides and the rivers of Montana to deliver an unforgettable day on the water.

How It Works:

$695 per day for 1 or 2 anglers to a guide.

The guide recommends the destination for the day based on the weather, water conditions, hatches, and our guests’ skills and interests. With so many options to choose from, it’s usually recommended to rely on our expertise to choose which option we think will be best for the day. However, we welcome requests to fish a certain river, or even a specific section of a river.

The guide provides use of any gear that might be required such as rods, reels, waders, boots, flies, leaders, and tippet. They offer instructions that are tailored to our guests’ fly fishing experience level while taking care of the essentials like tying knots, helping with tangles, fly selection, and expertly positioning anglers for success – all while rowing a drift boat 8-10 miles down a wild, Montana river. It’s a fun and rewarding experience for both angler and guide when it all comes together with smiles and trout in the net.

We meet at our office just west of downtown Bozeman at the intersection of US HWY’s 191 and 84. Guests usually ride to and from the river with their guide, getting to know each other while discussing the plan for the day. Lunches and non-alcoholic beverages are provided by the guide, as well.

Half-Day Trips:

These are offered primarily during the shoulder seasons in the spring and the fall. In the summer, half-day trips aren’t really the best experience as the time constraint limit our options to rivers that are either very busy with rafting traffic or just don’t fish well once the summer heat settles in.

How it works:

$650 per 4 hour trip (mornings only) for 1 or 2 anglers to a guide.

Floating the lower Madison River is our standard, half-day destination. This amazing piece of water is only about 20 minutes from our office and fishes well in the spring and the fall. While many anglers request a wade fishing option, we try to encourage floating as it is a more enjoyable and productive way to fly fish in Montana – we have been doing this for 25 years and recommend this based on those decades of experience.

Wade-fishing trips are offered on the Gallatin River at $1250 for groups of 1-3 anglers per guide on a limited basis. When available, the length of these trips are tailored to fit our guest’s schedules and can vary between 2-8 hours – it’s up to you.

We provide complimentary use of any fly fishing gear that’s needed for the day, along with expert instruction and assistance with techniques and tactics. Transportation to and from the river is provided along with a selection of non-alcoholic beverages.

Montana Fly Fishing Packages

Fish and stay are available at a variety of Bozeman hotels and Montana fly fishing lodges in the region. The hotel packages are designed with the price-conscious angler in mind while the lodge offerings are more attractive to anglers looking for specialty services and country settings.

Regardless of which option you prefer, the guides with Fins and Feathers Guide Service will take care of your fishing experiences during the day.

How it Works:

Prices vary based on a variety of factors like which establishment you prefer, the number of days of guided fishing, and the number of nights. Base pricing is shown as per person, based on double occupancy in a room and shared guide during the day. We can customize any of our lodging packages to fit your itinerary, so things like single rooms and extra nights are simple add-ons when requested.

Our staff of Bozeman fly fishing guides will meet you at our office in 4-corners on the morning of your trip to start your full day of guided fishing. Most guests rely on their guides’ expertise to choose the best river for their day. With so many fly fishing options in the area, lodging packages are convenient choice for our guests that are looking for a multi-day fishing itinerary.

Hotel and lodging pickups can often be arranged with prior notice. All fishing gear is included when needed, along with a deli lunch and non-alcoholic beverages.
