Current Conditions

The Missouri River, below Holter Dam, is always a great choice in the spring and early summer - expect to see some higher flows than normal if you are a wading angler this spring. Once the river gets much above 7000 c.f.s. - it gets pretty challenging for those limited to foot access only. There are some fish eating Midges along foamy seams and in the back-eddies right now on overcast days and during the middle of the day. The bit of color added to the river last week from Prickly Pear and the Dearborn has largely worked its way through the system and should not be an issue for at least a few weeks. One thing to note is that the main river flow is typically significant enough to reduce the impacts of dirty water coming in from these tributaries than most people realize. Nymphing along drop-offs and ledges with Sowbug, Midge, and BWO nymphs is very solid right now when flows are stable and there is some degree of overcast in the forecast.
