Depuy's Spring Creek

Current Conditions

DePuy’s Spring Creek has been fishing well this early spring. Clear water and steady conditions keep fish feeding most days, but they’re selective and good presentations matter. Long leaders and careful drifts make more difference here than constantly changing flies.

Midday into the afternoon has been the most productive stretch. Once the sun gets on the water, insect activity picks up and fish begin feeding more consistently through the slower glides and along the weed edges.

Nymphing can produce fish when nothing is happening on the surface. Small baetis nymphs and midge patterns have been the most productive. split case BWOs, small pheasant tails, and zebra midges are all good choices right now. Fish them lightly through the deeper slots and along the weed lanes where fish are holding.

Dry fly fishing is often the reason anglers are here this time of year. Baetis can show up on cloudy afternoons, and midges are present most days. parachute adams, small BWO dries, and Griffith’s gnats in the 18–22 range will cover most situations when fish start rising.

Streamer fishing isn’t a major focus on the spring creeks, but a small bugger or leech pattern can move a fish if you’re working deeper water early or late in the day.

Overall DePuy’s Spring Creek is offering good early spring fishing if you slow down and focus on presentation. Light tippet, accurate casts, and matching the small bugs will make the difference here.
