DePuy’s Spring Creek has been fishing well. The water is clear, and fish are feeding, but it’s still a technical game where small mistakes show up quickly.
Fish are holding in the slower glides and along the weed edges. They’re not moving far, so it’s more about finding fish and making a clean presentation than covering water. Long leaders and accurate drifts have been making the difference.
Nymphing can still produce, especially when there isn’t much happening on the surface. Small baetis nymphs, pheasant tails, and zebra midges have been the most consistent. Keeping everything light and natural has been more important than adding weight.
Dry fly fishing has been a bigger part of the day when conditions line up. Midges are still present, and baetis are starting to show more consistently. Fish will rise in softer water, especially during calmer periods.
