Depuy's Spring Creek

Current Conditions

DePuy’s Spring Creek has been a nice choice this week, especially once the day warms up. Mornings are still pretty cold and quiet, but by late morning the creek settles into a steady pace, and the fish have been active in the slower, deeper sections. Water is clear, flows are stable, and there’s very little pressure out there right now.

Nymphing has been the most dependable approach. Small patterns like zebra midges, pheasant tails, and slim perdigons have been producing when drifted close to the bottom. A 9-foot fluorocarbon leader of 4X is a simple setup that works well here, and keeping your presentation light and subtle makes a big difference in the clear water.

Streamer fishing has shown some promise during cloudy stretches. Smaller, natural-colored sculpin or baitfish patterns have been turning a few fish when fished along the deeper cuts or next to weed beds. A short 5–6 foot leader of heavier fluorocarbon (1X or 0X) helps those flies turn over cleanly.

Dry-fly fishing isn’t the main focus right now, but it’s not completely gone. On the warmer afternoons you may see a handful of BWOs or midges drifting through, and the occasional trout has been rising in softer water. Carrying a couple size 18–20 parachutes or emergers is enough to be prepared.

DePuy’s is a great late-season option if you want a quieter, more controlled stretch of water. Look for the warmest part of the day, lean on small nymphs, and keep an eye out for a surface window—you might get one.
