Depuy's Spring Creek

Current Conditions

Depuy’s Spring Creek has been fishing fine, but it has required a measured approach. The creek is open and clear, fish are present, and conditions have been consistent. Pressure has been steady, and fish have not been forgiving of mistakes.

Late morning through the afternoon has been the most productive window. Early hours have been quiet, with activity picking up once the sun has been on the water for a while.

Subsurface fishing has accounted for most of the fish being caught. Small midge nymphs have been the most reliable patterns. Staying small, fishing light tippet, and getting the fly down without rushing the drift has mattered more than changing flies.

Dry fly fishing has shown up in short windows. Midges have brought fish to the surface during calm periods, but feeding has been selective and short-lived. This has only been worth committing to when consistent rises are clearly visible.

There has been no reason to fish streamers. Fish have not been willing to move, and aggressive tactics have worked against anglers.

Overall, Depuy’s Spring Creek has offered technical fishing with limited opportunities. Success has come from patience, clean presentations, and realistic expectations rather than volume.
