Depuy’s Spring Creek is an excellent option during July for anglers looking to run into exceptional hatches and have shots at wild trout on dry flies. Hatches have been great, and fishing has been consistent.
Nymphing has been the best in the early mornings with tiny midge patterns.
Ants and beetles have provided a few fish in the afternoons, and we expect the terrestrial game to continue to heat up as the season continues.
PMDs are the premier hatch right now. We have been seeing them start mid-morning and increase in numbers throughout the day. Spinner falls in the evenings have been the best as fish have been rising in good numbers closer to dusk.
Anglers should hit the water with a variety of PMD imitations. Patterns like the CDC PMD Spinner, PMD sparkle dun, and PMD comparadun are best fished on leaders 10–12-foot tapered leaders of 5x or 6x.
Depuy’s Spring Creek has a rod fee of $120 through July 31.
