Current Conditions

DePuy’s Spring Creek is in excellent condition, with cold, crystal-clear flows holding between 48 and 54 degrees and a reliable late-summer hatch schedule keeping fish active throughout the day. PMD's remain the primary attraction, with a dependable late-morning emergence that can extend well into the afternoon. Smaller size 18–20 adults and emergers are producing steady action in slicks and soft seams.

Evening spinner falls have been consistent when winds are calm, producing some of the most confident surface takes of the day. CDC spinners and comparaduns in smaller sizes are effective in this window, while earlier in the day, sparkle duns and slim-bodied emergers presented to rising trout in tailouts and near structure have been reliable.

Midges remain a consistent secondary hatch in the early morning and late evening, especially under calm, overcast conditions. Subsurface work with scuds, sowbugs, and mayfly nymphs continues to turn fish in deeper tailouts and transitional water. Terrestrial activity is also picking up, with ants and beetles drawing attention along grassy edges and in softer inside seams during the warmest part of the afternoon.

Long leaders of 12 feet or more paired with 5X or 6X tippet are essential, along with a quiet, deliberate approach. The creek is offering some of the most refined and rewarding dry-fly opportunities in the Livingston area right now.
