DePuy's Spring Creek has been fishing well, but it's making anglers earn it. The morning trico hatch has been the best opportunity to find rising fish, with sulphurs taking over later in the day. Weed growth is starting to become more of a factor, so good drifts are more important than they were a few weeks ago.
If fish are feeding on top, stick with tricos or sulphurs. Once the surface activity slows, a small sowbug, scud, zebra midge, or pheasant tail has been a better choice. Most fish aren't moving far, so getting the first drift right is more important than changing flies.
This isn't a creek where covering water pays off. Slow down, pick one fish at a time, and expect to spend more time watching than casting. That's usually when the better fish end up in the net.
