DePuy's Spring Creek is fishing well and is starting to get into one of its better stretches of the season.
PMDs are becoming the main focus, and anglers are finding more fish looking up throughout the late morning and afternoon. The hatch isn't always heavy, but there have been enough fish rising that it's worth spending time with a dry fly rod in your hand.
When fish aren't on the surface, small nymphs continue to produce. PMD nymphs, zebra midges, sowbugs, scuds, and WD-40s have all been good choices. Long leaders, light tippet, and good drifts remain more important than the exact fly.
The creek has been fishing best when anglers slow down and focus on individual fish rather than covering a lot of water. There are plenty of opportunities, but DePuy's still rewards patience.
Dry fly fishing should continue to improve over the next couple of weeks as the PMDs become more established. For now, showing up prepared to fish both dries and small nymphs is still the best approach.
