2026 Montana state fishing license purchasing options have changed. As of March 1st, 2026, resident and visiting anglers will no longer be able to purchase fishing licenses at fly shops and sporting goods stores. This article goes into more detail on why the change was made and some best practices for purchasing fishing licenses online going forward.
Beginning March 1st 2026, Montana fishing licenses are no longer available for in-person purchase. All licenses must now be purchased online through Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks.
