Bozeman Fly Supply is located on College Street, in Bozeman, Montana. The shop originally opened in 2016 as Bozeman Family Fly Shop and is highly regarded for their community-focused identity.
Known for having the largest selection of fly-tying materials in the area, it also carries a wide range of rods, reels, and locally relevant flies. Beyond gear, Bozeman Fly Supply is respected for its weekly tying nights, educational events that foster connection and skill-building among local anglers. Their staff is generally young and engaging.
Their off main street location is easy to get in and out of while towing a trailer and offers plenty of storefront parking.
Montana Angler is located on East Main Street in downtown Bozeman, Montana. Their Bozeman fly shop is well-stocked with essentials, including flies, terminal tackle, rods, reels, wading gear, and apparel for the outdoor lifestyle.
Overall, Montana Angler is best known for its guided fishing trips and international fly fishing travel services, more so than their retail operations. However, they have done a nice job with the fly shop in terms of staffing and product mix.
Parking can be difficult during the busy summer season, but its certainly worth checking out when cruising downtown Bozeman on foot.
Montana Troutfitters is located on West Main Street, just a few blocks west of donwtown. Founded in 1978, it’s brand is the oldest of today’s fly shops in Bozeman, Mt. The shop offers a full lineup of fly fishing tackle, gear, and tying materials, and is known for having one of the largest streamer fly selections in town.
Historically known as the “college-kids’” shop, they stock the largest selection of entry-level fly fishing rod/reel packages.
They have plenty of parking and it’s easy to get in and out of their parking lot in the mornings and evenings when towing a trailer.
The downtown Bozeman fly shop is located on East Main Street, next to the Bozeman Public Library and across from Montana Ale Works. The second location is in Four Corners.
The River’s Edge was originally founded in 1983 and moved to its current downtown location in 2020, while the Four Corners shop opened in 2013.
Simms Fishing purchased the Rivers Edge back in 2019. Subsequently, Simms has traded hands between a variety of private equity firms, and the fly shop has essentially become a “company store” for the Simms brand. They continue to offer a variety of rods, reels, terminal tackle, and fly tying materials – but their emphasis is on showcasing the Simms product lineup.
Yellow Dog is the newest entrant into the Bozeman fly shop, purchasing Fins and Feathers of Bozeman back in late 2022. They have continued with the Fins and Feathers tradition of offering a large selection of rods, reels, fly lines, and accessories for the fly fisher.
