Big Sky is a resort community located south of Bozeman, Montana, in the Madison Mountain Range. The sprawling area comprises subdivisions and gated communities, with drivetime to our central office at 4-Corners ranging from 45 to 60 minutes.
Guests are advised to expect longer drive times during the summer season, when the best fly-fishing experiences are on the Madison and Yellowstone rivers. The logistics are simple, but early-morning start times are necessary to ensure we are on the water when fishing conditions are best.
The most common summertime scenario requires guests to drive south of Big Sky on HWY 191 towards West Yellowstone to the intersection with US 287 near Hebgen Lake. The scenic drive from Big Sky to a prearranged meeting spot with our guides on the upper Madison typically takes 60-90 minutes. The other option is to meet our guide at our office near Bozeman and ride with the guide to and from the river from there - this requires another 20-60 minutes of windshield time, however. Although Big Sky is not the most convenient base for exploring the rest of Montana, productive day trips are still possible.
Wade fishing options on the Gallatin River are available during the winter, spring, and fall seasons when river traffic quiets down. We avoid the sections near Big Sky during the summer due to heavy traffic and recreational crowds along the river. In our experience, these aren't the types of guided fly fishing trips that our clients are looking for.

"Had a 3 day float with Fins and Feathers with Coleman Jones. Great guide who worked hard to put us on fish. Highly recommend them if you are looking to book a guide service. Coleman put me on my first Cutthroat this year."

Day trips are 6-8 hours, with 5-7 hours on the water. Drive time is 60-90 minutes each way, and guests typically meet our guides in the Madison River valley or at our office in 4-corners.
The upper Madison and Gallatin rivers are the typical day-trip destination for guests staying in Big Sky, however, area lakes and the Yellowstone River are also options.
Lunches, non-alcoholic beverages, flies, terminal tackle, and use of fly fishing gear for 1-2 guests are included. Montana fishing licenses and gratuities are not included in these rates.
